Easy Chakra Meditation

I think about clutter every so often. The clutter in my basement or in my closet. Is there clutter in my brain? Or in my body? It may be helpful at times to clean out more than our physical spaces. We may benefit from clearing out our mental and energetic bodies as well. If we sit and listen we can allow what comes up for cleansing, attend to it and feel better. Sometimes a guided meditation or visualization for clearing helps us feel refreshed and rejuvenated. I hope this one feels helpful:


Begin by sitting or laying down on your bed, a yoga mat or the couch. Take at least three long deep breaths and watch your belly move up and down. Now shift your focus to your tailbone and breathe. Then your lower belly, breathing in and out. Move to the space above your belly button, then to your heart, throat, between your eyebrows and the top of your head. Breathe deeply from your stomach and slowly…in and out, just be aware of these body parts from the feet up, focusing on each space, breathing in and out.


Visualize golden roots coming out of your feet and going deep into the center of the earth. Anchor the roots there and notice the beautiful diamond white light that comes up from the light and into your energy body. Picture another beautiful white light coming from the sky down into your body and through your body into the earth. Now you can feel supported both above and below your body. Focus on the 7 wheels of light energy or chakras that run in a line down your spinal cord, (see image). The energy wheels or chakras collectively make a rainbow pattern down your spine. These large whirling energy centers of the body correspond to major organs and bundles of nerves. To function best, they spin and operate in balance.


The first energy wheel is on your spinal cord near your tailbone.

This ruby red wheel opens for you slowly. Imagine that your tailbone has a cord that runs into the earth and that any stagnant energy flows out of it into the earth. Thank the earth for connecting with your energy and set the intention to let go of anything that no longer serves you. You can add white, gold or healing green light to this old energy and then picture the chakra wheel spinning back and forth, vibrating just like a washing machine washing your laundry. When you feel you are done releasing and clearing the stagnant energy, the wheel stops. Red light travels up from the earth into your spinal cord and through the wheel in your tailbone. White light from above you seals and closes the wheel to the most appropriate setting for you.


You can repeat this process for all 7 wheels or chakras. Here are the corresponding placements, colors, and elements for energy cleansing purposes in the 7 major energy centers of the body:


Root chakrared– base of the spine-earth element, assists with grounding, safety, meeting base level needs, and stability

Sacral chakraorange– lower abdomen, below the navel where the perineum sits- water element, encourages you to flow with changes, open your creativity, express individuality, and governs your emotional well-being

Solar Plexus chakrayellow like a sun that shines above the belly button- fire element, governs intellectual wisdom, accountability, personal power, confidence, decision making

Heart chakragreen– located in the upper chest/thymus- air element, governs our love for ourselves and others, empathy, generosity, joy, compassion and forgiveness

Throat chakra– light or royal blue– located in the center of the neck- ether or space element, responsible for communication, self-expression and speaking the wisdom of our person truth

Brow or Third Eye chakraindigo (a mix of red and blue)- located between your eye brows- light element, this chakra assists with our gut feelings, our inner knowing and our intuition

Crown chakraviolet– located on the top of your head, sitting like a crown above the head -the element of thought, this chakra helps us to connect to our divinity, to the energy that creates and sustains us


After you finish visualizing all of your wheels releasing, spinning, filling up with color and sealing with light, picture beautiful golden white light coming down from the sky into your crown. Release any fears or worries and picture the golden white light filling up your body and around your body in the shape of an egg or an oval, a pyramid or a box, whatever feels right to you. Breathe deeply three times and allow the light to surround you.


I may follow this clearing meditation by pouring 1-2 cups of Epsom salt into a bath and listening to calming music. I like to finish that with wearing a calming scent like lavender. It’s very refreshing and I can choose to make time to do this process every so often. You can also do the meditation by itself and get great results.
