Understanding Animal Reiki
Reiki comes from the Japanese words Rei, meaning spirit, and Ki, meaning energy. It is the Universal Life Force present in all beings — humans, animals, and even nature. Reiki is awakened through an Attunement, a sacred ceremony where a Master Teacher sets a focused intention that opens the student’s ability to channel Reiki energy. The practitioner can then send Reiki to a human or animal, supporting their natural self-healing. Reiki energy is intelligent, safe, and always supports what is in the recipient’s best interest. Developed by Master Mikao Usui in the 1920s, Reiki has been lovingly practiced and preserved through lineages and apprenticeships ever since.
Animal Reiki connects your animal friend to their own self-healing energy, promoting relaxation, balance, and overall vitality. It can be practiced with domestic, farm, or even wild animals — in person or at a distance — and always respects the animal’s natural pace. Animals guide the session; we never force Reiki, and they receive only what they are ready for. Reiki can support physical discomfort, stress, anxiety, fear, or trauma, while strengthening the bond between you and your animal friend.

Why Distance Reiki Works
Animals are not limited by physical proximity in the way humans often assume. Reiki is not dependent on touch or location — it is a gentle, intentional energy practice that can be received across space.
In many cases, animals are actually more receptive when they are in their familiar environment without a new person present.
Being in their own space allows them to:
• Relax more deeply
• Move freely without social pressure
• Engage or disengage naturally
• Integrate the experience in real time
Because Animal Reiki is consent-based, your animal determines how much energy to receive and for how long — whether I am physically present or working from a distance.
Many caregivers report that distance sessions feel just as powerful — and sometimes even more subtle and profound — than in-person visits.
Distance Reiki offers a calm, low-stimulation option that honors your animal’s autonomy while still providing meaningful energetic support.

How a Session Works
Every animal is unique. Some welcome energy immediately, while others need time to observe and warm up. I always follow the animal’s cues, boundaries, and natural pace.
Before scheduling, we’ll determine whether Distance Reiki, a real-time virtual session, or an in-person visit is the best fit. Many animals receive Reiki without physical touch, and distance sessions are just as effective as in-person sessions. In some cases, physical distance or barriers are necessary for safety and comfort — we always honor what is best for the animal and for everyone involved.
Animal Reiki does not replace veterinary care, but it can beautifully complement it.
Session Length
30-minute sessions ($75)
A gentle introduction, ideal for small animals or those who process energy quickly. Available via distance or virtual format.
60-minute sessions ($125)
Allow for deeper integration, support for multiple animals, or work with groups such as farms, shelters, rescues, daycares, or parks.
In-person sessions are available within 20 minutes of my home in Kalamazoo. For locations beyond that radius, a 60-minute session is required. Extended travel availability is limited, and a travel fee of $30 per additional 15 minutes of one-way drive time will be added.
During the Session
Animals guide each experience. They may approach, rest, move away, or engage intermittently. All responses are honored.
Sometimes an animal’s answer is simply “not now.” If I travel to your location, the minimum session investment of $125 applies, regardless of how the animal chooses to engage. This covers travel time, preparation, and correspondence.
During in-person sessions, I may offer a brief grounding Reiki experience for the caregiver, if welcomed, so that you feel supported and centered while your animal receives care.
